This is the most obvious - back to its roots. This is the official site for iPod where you will find infomation about iPod - from its features to its technical specifications.

'iPod' article at Wikipedia
This Wikipedia article lists out the full history of iPods, from a timeline of iPods to special editions of iPods to even the industrial impact of iPods.

iLounge
iLounge has everything about iPod, iPhone, iTunes and beyond. News, softwares, tutorials, contests even free music downloads.

This webpage contains numerous softwares related to iPod for download. Many of them are trials, but some are free - and useful. e.g. iPodCopy gives you complete backup of your iPod.
